EEMS Perspective

Mini Case Study: How We Grew OneMart's Customer Database by Over 5,000

April 5, 2023 - in: Case Study

At EEMS, we recently helped our client OneMart, run a successful giveaway campaign over Christmas. By offering a car as the prize for the giveaway, the campaign was highly relevant to their audience. We required people to follow and share on social media to participate, got phone numbers, and increase in store traffic. Plus, we were able to create excitement and engagement around their brand.

As the holiday season approaches, businesses across the globe are looking for ways to engage their customers and boost their sales. In 2022, OneMart Supermarket in the Caribbean launched an exciting Christmas campaign that not only delighted their customers but also increased their revenue and expanded their awareness.

Here are some of our biggest insights that you can leverage to grow your business now by leveraging a giveaway campaign.

Require People to Sign Up with Email & Phone Number

We required participants to sign up with their email and phone number to enter the car giveaway contest. This strategy was aimed at collecting valuable contact information for future marketing efforts. With this information, EEMS can target its marketing campaigns and promotions to specific demographics and interests, thereby increasing the effectiveness of its marketing efforts. We grabbed over 5,000 contacts.

Increased Revenue

Participants were required to purchase from OneMart during the campaign to enter the contest. This strategy helped to increase OneMart's revenue during the holiday season. By encouraging participants to shop at OneMart, the supermarket was able to generate additional revenue from its existing customer base while also attracting new customers.

Maintained Fairness

To maintain fairness, OneMart Supermarket ensured that participants submitted their own entries and winners were selected randomly. This strategy helped to build trust among participants and ensured that the contest was perceived as fair.

Promoted, Promoted, Promoted

The success of the campaign was also due to effective promotion. We leverage digital marketing, created the assets and promoted the giveaway digitally on social media platforms and on the ground, in store with various printed materials. The promotion helped to attract a large number of participants and generated significant buzz around the campaign.

Expanded Awareness

As participants shared the campaign with their friends, the awareness of the OneMart brand expanded beyond its existing customer base. The increased awareness of the brand is expected to attract new customers to the supermarket in the future.

Followed Through

It was important to have a clear project plan to ensure that the campaign was executed seamlessly. By following through on the plan, OneMart was able to deliver on its promise and meet the expectations of its customers.

Increase your Brand Awareness

Freebies can increase your brand awareness, if positioned properly. Get your products or services in the hands of potential customers, and you’ll create experiences with your brand. When people share their positive experiences with friends or on social media, it can expand your brand's reach even further. Win win for everyone.

Increase your reach

Another benefit of giving stuff away for free is that it can increase your reach. By creating buzz and excitement around your brand, you're more likely to get noticed by people who may not have heard of you before. This can help you reach a wider audience and build brand recognition.

Grow your page by attracting new followers

By requiring people to follow or like your page to participate in a giveaway, you're creating an incentive for them to engage with your brand. This can help you grow your social media following and create a community around your brand. The idea here is that after the giveaway campaign is done, they’ll continue interacting with you.

Encourage engagement with your customers and potential customers

In addition to increasing your brand awareness and reach, giving away freebies can also encourage engagement with your customers and potential customers.

People love free stuff

First and foremost, people love free stuff. By offering giveaways or promotions, you're creating an opportunity for people to engage with your brand in a positive way. It can influence those fuzzy feelings when people think of you in the future.

Ask them to share your giveaway with friends

You can also encourage engagement by asking people to share your giveaway with their friends or comment on your social media posts. This can create a sense of community and excitement around your brand, and help to build relationships with your customers. Call it modern day evangelism, if you will.

Point of leverage: Grow your database of customer data

Finally, offering freebies can be a great way to grow your database of customer data.

Require people to sign up with email

By requiring people to sign up with their email address in order to participate in a giveaway or promotion, you're collecting valuable contact information that you can use for future marketing efforts. Just don’t sit on that list after the fact. Follow up – if it is even a thank you, or announcing the winner of the prize, don’t let them forget about you.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the OneMart car giveaway Christmas 2022 campaign was a huge success for the supermarket. By requiring participants to sign up with their email and phone number, increasing revenue, maintaining fairness, effective promotion, expanding awareness, and following through, OneMart was able to engage its customers and increase its sales during the holiday season. This campaign serves as a great example of how businesses can leverage giveaways to increase customer engagement and generate more revenue.
